Weedle/Kakuna/Beedrill
Yelsha42:
It has a big pink nose. Ironically one of the things I like about Weedle, which I hate about Oshawott. Yet it works on Weedle. Even though Weedle's design is very simplistic, the horn and nose give it enough personality to be a good character. Perhaps the ‘buggyness’ also.
moltres93:
Agreed. Insect larvae actually do have large, plump segments and Weedle’s nose just looks like an extra segment (as opposed to Oshawott who ACTUALLY has a big clown nose). On a slight topic change, I don't think having Weedle line right next to the Caterpie line was a great idea in my opinion. Although they are clearly based on different creatures, the evolution process is almost identical.
Yelsha42:
I’d say they were placed together because a) they both appear early on in the game, and hence are early in the Pokédex, and b) they are mirror lines (sort of like Omastar/Kabutops, etc. Anyway I think that’s about it on Weedle... Move on?
moltres93:
Absolutely. Kakuna is a brilliant design. Just like Metapod, it has added features to make it not just any old cocoon. The design of the folds of the shell is just great, making the overall design interesting and "sharper" and therefore more dangerous looking. The pitch black eyes make it look creepy, like most insects are.
Yelsha42:
Agreed. The colouring isn't normally a pleasant colour, but it suits Kakuna.
moltres93:
Of course, the muddy yellow wouldn't exactly be my first pick for the colour of a bride's maid's dress, but as you've said it certainly suits the Pokémon. Beedrill?
Yelsha42:
Yup yup, a fearsome Pokémon indeed. Warning stripes, 3 sharp needles, big red eyes - this Pokémon is pretty badass. Its wings are plain and similar to Butterfree’s but with less obvious patterns. The difference being Beedrill’s wings are similar to its real life counter part. And it only has 4 limbs. Putting the needles on its arms was an interesting choice that worked well.
moltres93:
Oh yes, the needle arms are pretty much its trademark. As if a stinger on its abdomen wasn’t enough, it has stingers for arms, as well. Same deal as with the Caterpie line- enough differences to make it a Pokémon, but it can still be recognised as a bee.
Yelsha42:
The stripes and colour scheme help a lot with that XD
moltres93:
Yes but even if they weren't there, the stingers and general body shape give it away. I'm giving the Weedle line 9/10.
Yelsha42:
I’d have to agree, 9/10.
